Justin Bieber, Usher Vie To Top Billboard Chart

Bieber's Believe enters charts just one week after his mentor's Looking 4 Myself, as Usher tells MTV News, 'We support each other.'
By Christina Garibaldi

<P>For the past several years, Usher has been helping his prot&#233;g&#233; Justin Bieber become an international pop star. The pair have collaborated on songs and onstage, but now they are about to have their first battle &#8212; on the charts.</P><P>Usher's album, Looking 4 Myself, debuted on top of the Billboard albums chart, becoming his fourth #1 album after selling 128,000 copies in its first week. But now it's Bieber's turn: Just one week later, Bieber will be entering the charts with his third studio album, Believe and early predictions are expecting huge album sales.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Do Usher And Justin Bieber Have a Friendly Competition For Record Sales?" id="vid:789781.id:1686957" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>According to Billboard, <i>Believe</i> is on course to sell between 410,000 and 440,000 units, which would make it the year's biggest debut to date.</P><P>Even though Bieber is on track to beat his mentor in sales, the R&B superstar isn't concerned.</P><P>Regarding whether he and Bieber speak about topping each other on the charts, Usher told MTV News, "Actually, we have not had that conversation. We try to calculate when we release so that we support each other. It's like a seesaw: 'You take it this week; I'll take it this week.' "</P><P>Usher also said that even though he and Bieber do not appear on each other's albums, he was still heavily involved in each song that made the cut on <i>Believe</i>.</P><P>"We talked about many different things when making his album. The coolest part about it is we support each other regardless if I'm on the album or he's on my album or not," Usher said. "Every album, it is that sit-down that we have to have, to go through this record. We talk about the audiences that are there: This song is for this audience member, this song is for this region. And that's always very helpful."</P><P>Bieber shared during "MTV First: Justin Bieber" that he still turns to Usher for sound advice.</P><P>"He's just giving me the advice of: Always keep the people that were there at the beginning and keep them with you, because those are the people that really care and they want to see you succeed."</P><P><i>Do you expect Justin Bieber to top Usher on the charts? Sound off below!</i></P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher Continues To Mentor Justin Bieber" id="vid:765694.id:1684329" width="415" height="255"></div><p></p>

Ke$ha Calls Bob Dylan Cover 'An Emotional Purging'

Pop singer sings 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' for Amnesty International anniversary album.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>It's hard to associate Ke$ha with songs about anything other than hot guys, body glitter and partying. But she's defying her usual topics of interest for human rights organization Amnesty International. The singer is one of the many musicians on the org's <i>Chimes of Freedom</i> compilation of Bob Dylan's music, out January 24.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Ke$ha Calls Bob Dylan Cover Choice 'An Accident'" id="vid:720838" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>When MTV News spoke with K-Dollar Sign last week about her all-star remix of "Sleazy," she also opened up about switching gears vocally and emotionally for her version of Dylan's classic "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right."</P><P>"I mean, I think it's pretty well known that he's one of, if not my most, favorite artists of all time and ... one of the most amazing lyricists as well &#8212; the original storyteller," she explained. "So I love Bob Dylan and this was just, like, a dream. When they asked me to do a cover, I was just, like, salivating and going through all my records. It was so fun. It was the best homework assignment you could possibly have."</P><P>K's version of Dylan's song is a slow-burning, heartbreaking ode to the already heartbreaking classic, where she channels Dylan through lyrics like "Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say/ To try and make me change my mind and stay/ We never did too much talkin' anyway/ So don't think twice, it's all right."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="What Is The Biggest Perk Of Being A Headliner?" id="vid:642810" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>Ke$ha had originally intended to record another Dylan track, but when she heard that someone else had their sights set on it, she settled on "Don't Think Twice," prompting a catharsis she could never have imagined.</P><P>"This song was kind of an accident. I sat down and this is the first take that I ever sang," she recalled. "I just sat down on my bed for the first time after months of being on tour and I just started crying, and it was kind of like an emotional purging, and you can hear it on the record."</P><P>In addition to Ke$ha and her contribution, the album will feature 75 other Dylan classics recorded by nearly 80 artists including Adele, Miley Cyrus, "Glee" star Darren Criss, My Chemical Romance, Evan Rachel Wood and Sugarland. The album pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International.</p>

And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you'd think the Foo Fighters &#8212; set to perform at Sunday's Movie Awards &#8212; would know their "Potter" from their Zeppelin. Snooki: Bumpin' Around Her "Gorilla Beach" Book Tour

Working hard while taking care of her pregnancy cravings, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi headed over to the Showboat Casino where she held her 'Gorilla Beach' book tour during the grand opening of the new Earl of Sandwich in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Wednesday (July 25).

Before grabbing a huge pair of scissors to help with the ribbon cutting ceremony, the MTV reality star gave a quick speech and took turns posing for pictures with her fiance Jionni LaVelle - and a massive sandwich sub - while wearing a bump-bearing blue dress that she paired with a blazer, black tights and ankle boots.

As for the latest drama surrounding 24-year-old, Star magazine published the claim in their Thursday issue that "there could be a cat fight" at Snooki's baby shower between the soon-to-be mom and her former "Jersey Shore" roommate Deena Cortese after sources told the mag, "The girls are angry with her because she copies everything they do and they just want to distance themselves."

However, Snooks quickly put an end to the rumor by taking to Twitter this morning to tell her fans, "FYI, star magazine is ALWAYS wrong. Deena and I are amazing friends & she will be at my baby shower, weirdos."

Major drama in the world of the Jackson family. As they continue to learn how to live without Michael Jackson, there is still some trouble for the kids. Find out what happened here. So far it’s been a busy week in celeb news. There is the Kristen Stewart cheating drama, the awful shooting in Colorado, and a few other small stories. On top of it all we hear that Katherine Jackson is acting a little bit bizarre and even disappeared. As we wrote earlier this week, sometime Saturday the family apparently reported that they couldn’t find her anywhere! Even poor, young Paris Tweeted: “yes, my grandmother is missing. i haven’t spoken with her in a week i want her home now… the same doctor that testified on behalf of dr murray saying my father was a drug addict (a lie) is caring for my grandmother… just saying.” Even though that Tweet didn’t make much sense to anyone, people are really worried for the kids. It only took a few days before the whole thing blew up. It turns out that Katherine was fine, she was apparently photographed just hanging out with some friends playing cards. Meanwhile, Paris and Prince were [...]

Whitney Houston dies at 48

Whitney Houston

It’s no secret she’s had a rough go of it in recent years, and Whitney Houston has died of undisclosed causes, says her publicist Kristen Foster. With her fans and friends understandably devastated by the news, details available thus far tell that the "I Will Always Love You" singer was found unresponsive in her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Saturday (February 11). With paramedica arriving within minutes, Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55PM with a full investigation already underway - though there are said to be no signs of foul play. According to TMZ, a search of the Beverly Hilton Hotel room in which the 48-year-old was staying found no illegal drugs, though prescription medications were located. TMZ adds that there's a chance Miss Houston died from drowning in the bathtub, but since her body was removed from the water before EMTs arrived the conclusive determination must await an autopsy. Below are pictures from the scene at the Beverly Hilton Hotel after Whitney Houston's passing (February 11). [gallery=817]
