MTV News looks at what the artists have been up to since Spalding beat out Bieber for Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammys.

<P>Last year, Esperanza Spalding beat out sure bets like Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine and Drake when she won the Best New Artist prize at the 2011 Grammy Awards. The loss was particularly hard on Bieber, who spoke to MTV News shortly after the loss. "I had no clue what was going to happen; I worked really hard these past few years, and you know, I'm not going to lie — I was disappointed," Bieber told MTV News at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "But, you know, I'm gonna come back [next year] and we'll take a few home. ... I'm inspired to work harder than I did last year. It's going to be hard, but I'm going to try." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:622224.id:1657881" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Spalding was nearly as floored by the win as Bieber. "I really didn't think it was going to be me," she told MTV News backstage. "I was one of those [surprised] people. ... It was so unexpected, that's the truth. I'm grateful to all my people in my big musical family that have given me so much support and help over the years. I don't really think this is for me; it's for all of us. And I wish they could all be here to put one finger on this with me." In the 12 months since last year's Grammy show, Bieber has been everywhere and has certainly lived up to his promise to work hard. He's released new music as well as lots of splashy music videos, gone on an arena-filling world tour, dropped a box-office-busting 3-D concert film, hit the studio for his upcoming album <i>Believe</i> and kept teen girls screaming with an onslaught of various new hairstyles and photo ops. Spalding, on the other hand, has managed to fly under the radar in the time since she took home Grammy gold. However, this March she plans to get back on the scene and release her new album, <i>Radio Music Society,</i> her follow-up to <i>Chamber Music Society,</i> the 2010 album that helped bring national attention to her at the Grammys last year. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:622257.id:1657881" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "Originally I thought it would be fun to release a double album," she said in a statement about the soon-to-be released album. "One disc with an intimate, subtle exploration of chamber works and a second one in which jazz musicians explore song forms and melodies that are formatted more along the lines of what we would categorize as pop songs. Those are the two things that really interest me, and it intrigues me to think about different presentation approaches while writing each kind of song." As she sets out to celebrate the anniversary of her win, Spalding dropped a new track, "Black Gold," to radio, and earlier this month she premiered the video for it. She'll also hit the road for a tour that kicks off in April and wraps up in June. Interestingly enough, Bieber is also set to drop his new album later this year, for which he's enlisted Drake, will.i.am, Pharrell and Lil Wayne. Could it mean there will be another Bieber/Spalding showdown at the 2013 Grammy Awards? Only time will tell. <b>Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! 'We're not done with 'Friday Night Lights,' ' executive producer Peter Berg tells MTV News.

The last time we checked in on a potential movie based on the "Friday Night Lights" TV series, star Taylor Kitsch told MTV News that he knew just as much as we did. "I hear hearsay and all this kind of stuff," Kitsch said, adding that executive producer Peter Berg could always make it happen. "If Pete sets his mind to something, he'll usually get it done."
MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with Berg himself at a "Battleship" preview at Toy Fair in New York, and we asked for an update on the movie.
"Jason Katims, who was our super talented show-runner, is about done with the script," Berg said. "You never know. So much of these things become scheduling. Kyle [Chandler] is busy, Adrianne [Palicki] is busy, Taylor is busy, Connie Britton is busy, but if we can get everyone in the same room at the same time, we all want to do it. We're not done with 'Friday Night Lights.' "
Speaking to a potential plotline, Berg said they plan to involve some real-life elements pegged to former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach but that things will revolve around Coach and Tami Taylor from the TV series.
"[Katims] has come up with a really great storyline that parallels what happened to Mike Leach, one of my heroes, a coach at Texas Tech who was unjustly fired and unjustly accused of mistreating a player with a concussion, which was proven to not have been the case. He's now at Washington State getting ready for what I think will be a great redemption story," Berg explained. "It would be critical that we get Kyle and Connie [onboard for the film] — we anchored the show around them — and then bring in Riggins, Tyra, Lyla and all other characters as we could get them. But the idea is to really revolve it around the coach."
Kitsch seemed to have reservations about returning to his beloved character, but he's open to a cameo. "I loved the way I left Riggs," Kitsch said when asked if he'd like to continue on with the character. "You never know. Maybe a little cameo or something. We'll see if he even wants me in it."

Making for quite the adorable family, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were spotted arriving in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday (February 14).
The "Paperboy" actress toted little Faith Margaret in her arms as her hubby held Sunday Rose's hand while exiting the Sydney International Airport terminal on the Valentine's Day holiday.
As for the reason behind the trip, Keith happened to have work lined up in the Land Down Under while participating in a show that's described as Australia’s version of "The Voice".
The country rocker nabbed the role as one of the program's coaches helping to lead hopeful artists towards their goal of success in the music industry.

Selena Gomez on the cover of Cosmopolitan

<P>Selena Gomez turns the big 2-0 later this year, and she seems to be leaving her tween image behind. The 19-year-old is the latest teen star to appear on the cover of <i>Cosmopolitan,</i> following last month's issue of the women's magazine, featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning. For her first cover for the magazine, Gomez dons a low-cut, floral-print dress as she looks rather seductively into the camera. She's sitting with her one leg perched in front of her body, displaying a saucier side of herself than fans might be used to seeing. <center></center> Inside the issue, she's talking all about love, opening up about her longtime boyfriend, Justin Bieber. "I'm just like every 19-year-old girl," she said. "If you're in love, you're in love to the fullest, and you just want to go to the movies, hang out, and be as normal as possible. I'm fortunate that I've found someone who has that philosophy." In another <i>Cosmo</i> quote floating around online, Gomez dishes on a past boyfriend (Taylor Lautner? Nick Jonas?) who didn't make things as easy on her. "I was in a relationship previously where I had to hide everything and it wasn't my choice. I had to go through different exits and take separate cars and do the craziest things, and it just really wasn't worth it," she explained. "It was like a year of my life completely wasted." The more mature magazine cover comes as Gomez prepares for the next phase of her career. In the coming weeks, she'll hit the set for her next film, the more adult-themed "Spring Breakers," which follows a group of college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. When they land in jail, a drug and arms dealer bails them out, and they quickly become entangled with him and his business. "It's a different character than I have ever played before," she told MTV News about the film, which will be directed by "Kids" mastermind Harmony Korine. "It's a different kind of vibe I think than people are used to seeing me in. What you're going to see is more raw, I think. It's going to be raw and more about acting." <i>What do you think about Selena's grown-up image? Let us know in the comments!</i></p>
